Geant4 Logo Competition - closing 12th 14th Nov. 2016 midnight

The competition is now closed, the jury will announce the winner on November 21th.

After two rounds of voting including a 4 design short-list we have been unable to choose a clear winner for our logo contest - the voting results
gave an almost totally flat/random distribution. This does not detract from the quality of the entries, but reflects the similar nature of them all. Some of the (high quality) designs by-chance reflected and mimicked other logos from projects from which we would prefer a clear distinction.

According to the Terms and Rules of the competition, the final decision will be made by the Geant4 Steering Board. As the decision is not easy to
take, it will be discussed in the next steering board meeting on the 14th December 2016 - We will keep you updated -

The Geant4 logo logo is already 20 years old! We are looking for a new, fresh logo which is eye-catching and also better defines what we do and who we are as a collaboration. It should also allow others to refer to us and our code on their web-pages (e.g. companies, universities, documentation, conferences...) as well as to identify us on video platforms (e.g. Youtube, Vimeo, Dailymotion) and social media (Facebook, Twitter, ...).

Two vector formats are required :

A square logo, ratio 1:1 (for Youtube, Facebook, ...)
A horizontal banner, aspect ratio between 3:1 and 5:1 (for web-pages and publications)
A slogan (or design space) could be added to the horizontal shape (max 40 characters)

Project information

Geant4 is a Monte Carlo toolkit for the simulation of the passage of particles through matter. Its areas of application include high energy, nuclear and accelerator physics, as well as studies in medical and space science.
The software is used by tens of thousands of people globally - scientists researchers, students and engineers. The project began 22 years ago at CERN, but is a world-wide collaboration involving many nationalities. The logo should reflect both the scientific nature of particle physics detector simulation and the collaborative nature of our project. The associated publicity can be far reaching.

Who can submit a logo?

The competition is open to anyone, whether professional or amateur, scientist or artist or both.

Deadline

The contest is open for two weeks, from 29th October 2016 midnight (GMT) until ~~12th~~ 14th November 2016 midnight (GMT).

Selection of the winner

All entries will be screened and those that comply with the Terms and conditions and have met the guidelines and specifications, as seen on this page, will be judged by the Geant4 collaboration members (~100 people) by a vote.

The winner will be announced on November 21st and will be notified email. In the event that no entry is selected, Geant4 reserves the right to declare no winner and run the contest again at a later date.

The winning entry will be displayed on this page after that date. The judges decision will be final.

Prize

One winner will receive the prize consisting of 150 €
We will acknowledge the winning designer on our homepage

Additional information

If you are chosen as a winner

you must be able to provide vector files.
you must be able to provide the fonts used.

The logo should be in colour.

How to submit ?

Any valid form submission will be notify to the submitter with a 24h delay.
In submitting a logo and banner, you agree that they will be display on the website competition page designs as thumbnail (200x200 for logo and 100x400 for banner) with your pseudo/web site address for the duration of the competition.
The number of submissions is not limited, however you can only submit one design at a single time. The maximum file size is 2MB by file.
